So the other day I was over at the house where Mandi is staying, until we move into the apartment, and we were served some ice cream. Her "host Mom" served us this ice cream with a Swiss specialty topping. It looked really good and chocolaty on the vanilla ice cream and I took a bite expecting to relish in the taste of another decadent dessert.
It wasn't quite the taste I was expecting. If you like the combination of tart apples and burned rubber, this might be the sauce for you! It looked just like chocolate sauce and was dark and the same consistency as Hershey's syrup. WRONG. I found out it was a long-time recipe from a small village in Switzerland. To make this syrup they boil and stir the apples into a sauce. This whole process takes somewhere between 3-4 days. (I think they forgot to mention the part where they "burn" the apples and throw in some rubber to make it all stick together.)
I managed to eat most of the ice cream from around the sauce.....it's a talent, I know. I kept trying a bit of the sauce, thinking it would taste better. Yeah, that didn't happen. Why do we do that anyway......keep trying something that's not good, thinking it will get better??? Your guess is as good as mine!
So, watch what you eat - it's not always what you think it is! Bon Appetit!
