Also this amazing gourmet restaurant where I went to eat on Saturday night with my "family" here. They were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary and invited me along with their two sons and their fiancés.
I have never eaten a more fancy meal in my life, but I have never felt more comfortable in that type of atmosphere either. Showing once again, that it's all about who you are with that makes or breaks an experience! Usually I'm so stressed out about using the wrong utensil or trying to figure out what I'm eating that it's just not enjoyable.
This time, however, I could read the menu (in french) and actually carry on conversation (again in french) from time to time. I just watched everyone else to see how they ate certain things and just did a lot of listening and smiling.
When we got our main courses, it was more like a work of art than a plate of food. I was debating taking a picture of mine......but decided on taking one of Christine & Robert's plates instead. They had much more interesting food! I ordered a filet of chicken with sautéed mushrooms. It was the best chicken I've ever had. There were sprigs of green things and 2 rose petals on my plate too. Christine got some type of fish and Robert got leg of lamb - that actually had those white, puffy things on the ends. (I have only ever seen that in cartoons!) Pretty funny, actually.
I ended out the evening with a mug of hot chocolate and the server looked at me a bit strangely when I ordered it, but I just smiled and said, "yes, I know it's bizarre, but I like it!" And, it was a great ending to a magical meal. We left the restaurant around 11:30pm and walked down the street home - since it was just on the other side of the village where we live. That was the best 3 & 1/2 hour meal I've had! Not that I'd want that every day, but once in awhile I like it a lot.
Bon appetit!
