Laughter & Meatballs

9 days until "D-day," but who's counting? Apparently everyone around me......maybe that's a hint that they're anxious for me to leave! ha ha

Can you believe that Christmas is 2 days away? Then New Year's sneaks in there a week later and then I leave New Year's day for Switzerland. Three big events all within a week - they say things come in "3's," Well, we always said that at Hospice but maybe it's not a fact in the non-Hospice world. I made one last visit to the office yesterday to say a few more "good-bye's" and got recruited to come back again after my term in Cameroon. (I love ya Aunt Jane!) Who knows what will happen 3-4 years from now, not me.

Today was my last day volunteering at Ditto with Grandma and her friends (my adopted "grandma's" from church). Ditto is a resale store that supports the local Christian schools and they have a TON of clothes and some furniture, toys, books, you name it - they probably have it or will get it eventually! We stick with sorting and hanging up clothes and have a very fun time doing it.

Ditto provided lunch for us today, who can pass up a free meal of Russ' soup............especially if you're Dutch? Not us of course! Can I just say that I hope I'm fun and feisty like they are when I get older? Plus, "grandma's" (and "grandpa's too) always seem to know how to do everything. I call up Gram & Gramp's all the time with questions about everything under the sun.

Today the topic of meatballs came up and it was a lively conversation. Everyone seemed to know the same "secret recipe" and how to make them in the crock-pot. I was just sitting back and observing everyone and watching words like "grape jelly"....."chili sauce"......"ketchup"...... and "sugar" go flying back and forth across the table. Quite entertaining! Hopefully I'll have the knowledge of meatballs when I'm a grandma too.

So, outside of packing, sorting, getting all my last minute questions answered, and final things in order; it seems like all I do is shovel snow these days. Maybe it's just my "make-up shoveling" from last year when I didn't do any since I was on crutches? A big THANKS to my roommate Sandy for shoveling ALL winter last year......glad I can help you this year!

(Double the amount of snow behind me in your mind - for an up-to-date total. It's over my knees on the lawn.)
